EAL/D
Macarthur Girls High School is committed to providing quality EAL/D support to English as second language learners. The EAL/D faculty provides specific teaching and learning resources to support the particular learning needs of targeted students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
The programs and strategies that enhance the educational outcomes of EAL/D students at MGHS include:
- Specialist EAL/D and English trained educators teaching Stage 4 English classes identified as EAL/D classes.
- EAL/D specialists supporting individual learning needs of new arrival and international EAL/D students across different subjects, by providing team teaching support.
- Analysing a range of current literacy data, such as EAL/D testing, NAPLAN, ERN and literacy continuum, to inform practice and pedagogy.
- Providing detailed reports of EAL/D students' language acquisition and achievements including strategies to assist them in further enhancing their skills.
- Experienced Year 11 and 12 ESL teachers delivering the HSC English as a Second Language Course.
