Stage 6

Stage 6 students continue to develop their knowledge, understanding, and skills in the pursuit of successfully completing the Preliminary and Higher School Certificate. During the senior years at Macarthur Girls High School, we focus on providing opportunities which aim to enhance student learning outcomes and prepare students as they transition to life beyond school. This is achieved through a combination of academic, wellbeing, leadership, and career initiatives.

All Year 11 and 12 students participate in the school developed Academic Coaching Course (ACC). This aims to support students holistically in promoting academic success and wellbeing. Students develop their learning and study skills under the guidance and support of teacher mentors. Students are provided the opportunity to explore career options and future educational and work pathways, including guided sessions on UAC, applying for Scholarships, and UMAT.

The Year 11 and 12 PRIDE program focuses on the themes of resilience, transition, strategies, and supports, unity, wisdom, vision, and values. This whole school wellbeing program provides an opportunity for every student to reflect on their cognitive, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual wellbeing. The program is taught by PRIDE teachers alongside student PRIDE leaders who assist with the delivery of the program.

Max Potential is a personal leadership development program that aims to develop student leadership skills and abilities. It also encourages students to focus on the local community and ways that they can work to improve it. Max Potential connects young adults with other leaders in their local community in a mentoring partnership. Max Potential participants also have the opportunity to obtain a Certificate 1 vocational qualification as part of the program.

The Peer Support provides leadership opportunities to Year 11 students as they guide and support Year 7 students in their first year of high school. Peer support leaders undertake leadership training to enhance their communication, collaboration, teamwork, and leadership skills. They work in partnerships with other peer support leaders to deliver the Peer Support program.

Stage 6 offers many other leadership opportunities for students. The school leadership structure invites the application of Year 11 and 12 students to join the School Representative Council as School Captains, Vice Captains and senior prefects. Students may also be elected as House Captains and Vice House Captains for the Sports Council. Each year a variety of community-based projects are made available to senior students to volunteer their time and develop their leadership skills such as The Red Shield Appeal. Students involvement within community activities is encouraged.

As students work towards completing their Higher School Certificate, we acknowledge the stress and pressure our students may be feeling. Students can access a variety of wellbeing services through the school and external services such as School Counsellors, Year Advisers, Head Space, and Reachout.
