Transition to Year 11 Program

Year 10 Transition Program

Since 2009 it has been Department of Education and Communities policy that Year 10 students are required to attend school until the last day of Term 4. For the past 2 years, students at Macarthur Girls have engaged in a range of enrichment activities and introductory skills lessons to Year 11 subject choices. The purpose of these lessons is not to learn preliminary HSC content but to help build students' skills in preparation for undertaking  senior study.

Year 10 students attend their Year 11 subject choices using an alternative timetable. Additionally, students participate in a range of courses which include: All My Own Work, CPR resuscitation training, Financial Planning, action research, healthy eating, relaxation techniques, boot camp, RTA and car maintenance, study skills and cyber safety. Many of these courses integrate 21st century learning skills in which students collaborate with peers, think critically, solve real world problems and build creative skills.

This alternative program typically runs during the last 4 weeks of Term 4. The success of the program has been demonstrated with more than 90% of students stating that they feel more prepared for Year 11.
